Social Welfare Department Dementia Friendly Community Campaign

A series of new initiatives were announced in the Policy Agenda 2017 to strengthen community care and support services for people with dementia. The Social Welfare Department (SWD) has launched the Dementia Friendly Community Campaign, a 3-year public education programme, since September 2018 to promote proper understanding of dementia and encourage members of the public to take action to show care and support to people with dementia and their families, with a view to building a dementia friendly community.

Among the activities under the campaign, the Hong Kong Alzheimer’s Disease Association (HKADA) has been commissioned by the SWD to assist in organizing a number of “Dementia Friends” Information Sessions and “Dementia Friends Ambassador” Workshops territory-wide and at district level.  Through interactions and discussions, the information session allows participants to learn more about dementia and encourages them to register as “Dementia Friends”, and train concerned individuals as “Dementia Friends Ambassadors”, so that they will be able to share with others their knowledge on dementia and motivate more people to register as “Dementia Friends”.
